Craziness In This World Of Ours...

Read this to me!!

Well, today we mourn the loss of at least 100,000 good human beings to the stupidity of government. Yes, I am speaking of the massive tsunamis that hit the pacific yesterday. It seems to me that if a government doesn't know that tsunamis follow massive earthquakes at sea, then they don't have very good scientific sense. The geeks who work for them should be ashamed! And no one was able to get the warnings out. That's pure BS. The governments didn't want panic. They knew that, if they sent the warnings and evacuation orders out, they would have widespread panic. Then, having so little warning and being unable to prevent or deal with said panic, would recieve lots of criticism for inciting said panic. What a world we live in. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
Well, now we have the aftermath to deal with- disease, homelessness, looting, and general chaos. Wonderful. The UN will have to send people in, the Red Cross, groups like that. The US will be sending aid as well, I bet, though I think that we should perhaps pull out of Iraq some to help pay for the aid we'll undoubtably be sending. Yes folks, I am against the war in Iraq. Whoopdee doo. Move on. We have more pressing issues as geeks in this world, such as curing cancer, AIDS, and other things like that. And landing on the moon again. And stopping tragedies like this one in the south pacific. *Sigh* That is all for today.

A moment of silence for our departed fellow humans, and especially for all those geeks who perished. May all of the victims rest in peace.

Franks In Space!

Read this to me!!

Here comes another wonderful news story, for all you spacey people out there:

The French have recently launched their third "spy" satellite via an Ariane rocket. This will supposedly give the French military the ability to "spy" all over the world. The satellite, called Helios 2A, has capabilities ranging from ground mapping for cruise missile guidance to infrared imaging for night photography. Able to spot textbooks from space, the satellite is the latest in French military technology.(Original article can be found here-->Spy Satellite. )

Well, the French have finally decided to move into the 21st century with their spy technology. Maybe the next satellite they launch will have SIGINT (signals intelligence, i.e. radio interception) capabilities. At any rate, the French can now see what you're doing at night- and through clouds and stuff. Make sure that you insulate the roof of your house so they can't watch you at night. We all know what the French like- why else does so much pron come out of that country? See, now I'm just not being funny. Oh well. The French now have 3 "spy" satellites in orbit. We have over 20. Just goes to show, maybe we don't have our priorities straight and we're spending too much on military, or maybe the French are just poor. I think it's the first one. We spend 400 billion dollars per year ($400,000,000,000USD) on the military, and not even a third of that on almost every other social program combined. See a problem? Perhaps not. In that case, you're probably a republican, and then you probably don't like my opinions, either. In either case, this is The Daily Geek, and we bid you good day and happy geekness.

Welcome To "The Daily Geek"

Read this to me!!

Welcome, readers, to The Daily Geek. It is my Intention, as Editor and boss-type guy here at The Daily Geek to provide the best in geek news and opinions(the latter usually being mine). For today's little tidbit, we bring you some of the more astute political maneuverings from the Communists in the south(The following is paraphrased from an Associated Press Article, full credit and props to them).

The Cuban government has demanded that the US interest section(the thing we have there instead of an embassy, since the government refuses to have an embassy in a *gasp* communist country-except China, of course, what with all the money we save with them.-The Josh.) remove the Christmas decorations that they have up, including several fake snowmen and Santa Claus effigies.
The real bone of contention is a small round sign bearing the number "75," a reference to the 75 Cuban dissidents imprisoned in the past year. The American interest section people are saying that they won't, claiming the sign is to show their support for those striving for democracy in Cuba. The diplomats are claiming that this is all part of their "Christmas spirit."
The Cuban government has threatened action, but has not as yet made any concrete statements as to what they plan to do.(Original article pulled from here-->http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=589&e=2&u=/ap/cuba_us.)

And now I rag on the whole situation.

The fact of the matter is that the diplomats that the US has down there are being complete and utter jackasses doesn't seem to make any difference. According to the state department, we are doing this out of support for the dissidents. Now, while that may certainly be part of the reason, I think that this is merely a case of America Syndrome- we're more powerful than you, so we're just going to do whatever we want in your yard and not care what anyone else says. Yeesh. Now, I certainly disagree with communism, especially the Cuban brand. I'd be the first to say that I won't be sad the day that Castro dies. However, until such a time, he is the head of a foreign country, and as such, there are certain protocols to be followed. We may not like it, but if we don't follow them, we sink down to a level that I think we can't afford to sink to. We've already sunk low enough as it is, what with invading Iraq and all. But that's a whole other post in itself, and one that we here at The Daily Geek do not have the time or patience for at this point. What we have time for now is sleep and studying for final exams. We at The Daily Geek bid you farewell and good day.
